The products of Sakhalin II project are liquefied natural gas (LNG) and Vityaz crude oil.
LNG is a promising and environmentally friendly fuel which may be conveniently transported and stored. First commercial deliveries of Russian LNG are destined for Asia and America.
About the project
Sakhalin II is one of the world’s largest integrated greenfield oil and gas projects developed in the harsh subarctic conditions of the Russian Far East.
Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd. (Sakhalin Energy) is the operator of the Sakhalin-2 project under a Production Sharing Agreement with the Russian Federation. The company was formed in 1994 to develop the Piltun-Astokhskoye oil field and the Lunskoye gas field in the Sea of Okhotsk offshore Sakhalin Island in the Russian Far East.
The project includes three offshore production platforms, two of them being the heaviest ever constructed offshore; a system of offshore and onshore pipelines; and hydrocarbons processing, transportation, storage and export facilities.
The project creates around 2.5 thousand full-time jobs.
